- all tomato nowadays are picked when it is still green, and ripened with ethylene gas

info quoted from video 'food inc.'

喜歡 investigative reporting

這 video/movie 也非常值得收看

to make it more clear, let's give an example

let's say if you can finish a yogurt by Jul 14

and there are two yogurt in front of you in the supermarket

one will expire on Jul 17, and the other will expire on Jul 20

most people will choose the Jul 20 as they think it is fresher

true that it is more fresh

but if everyone choose the Jul 20

who is going to buy the Jul 17?

if it's lucky it will go on sale and somebody will buy it

if not it will straight to trash and got wasted

so why don't we observe and fulfill our "need" instead of our "unquenchable desire"

sometimes it is our ego that 'wanting the best thing' turn this world into a 弱肉強食的社會

i know it is kind of human nature

but i aware human nature also has the beautiful part to manifest

so lets make a change

think before we purchase

and observe our 'need' and 'desire'

i love nutritional therapy

- 原來fertilizer 主要 make up of 3 minerals: NPK (nitrogen, phosphate, potassium), but soil need 52 different minerals, so when soil is deficient, the food is deficient too, so bugs come and attack the food, the farmers then use pesticide to kill the bugs. So even if we eat vegetarian food, we eat toxin. (the root cause is the fertility of the soil. We have over planting and depleted our soil, or we shall say, the root cause is our greed.)

- 進食 local food rather than 外國進口的, 因為 travel time shorter, 所以營養流失較少

- when we cook our food, life enzymes in food are killed.

加), 因為我們的身體以為那些食物是 toxin, cause the heat has changed the food structure and our body couldn't reckon it as food and thought it is toxin

- A swiss doctor, Paul Kouchakoff (1930's) first to find out that if we ate an diet which is more than 51% of cooked food, the body will react to the food as if it would being invaded by a foreign organism.

- He also demonstrate that if 51% or more of our diet is from raw food, there will be no leukocytosis. So our immune system wont be activated with the false alarm. So make sure 51% of meal we have is raw, so we wont over burden our immune system.

(e.g. spirulina. It has been consumed in mexico as the main protein source for 5000 years. It has the highest protein content food in the world. This protein is easy to be absorbed by body. While for meat, it needs massive energy to liquify it and make absorb able by your digestive system.)

- Superfood: golgi berries, raw honey, wheatgrass, spirulina, tumeric, nori, giner, maca powder, echinacea, bee pollen, coconut, durian, kelp, acai, dulse, kombu, raw cacao, wakame, golden seal, barley grass etc.

- 原來 raw cacao has the highest amount of magnesium, chromium, vitamin C and other different minerals. But all processed chocolate has no vitamin C as heat destroy vitamin C.

- Raw cacao has the highest antioxidant content, 而 antioxidant 能 protect us from viral damage, dna damage, cancer, skin damage etc. Antioxidant 幫助我們 inhibit 細胞氧化過程 (細胞氧化會產生自由基 (free radicals) which will damage cells), 所以 低 antioxidant level 會容易 cause oxidative stress and cell damage, 而 relatively higher level of antioxidant 能減低 oxidative stress and cell damage. 而 according to research, oxidative stress might be an important part of many human diseases, including cancer and coronary disease.

- if we eat a lousy meal a day (say a steak, chocolate cake, sugar drink etc.), even we eat healthy the other day (say salad, fresh fruit), the harm we did on the first day cannot be restored. There is always a residual problem and we have to pay back for whatever we eat sooner or later. Of cause, the good food we eat also pay back in a good way too.

- large dose of vitamin C can prevent and treat illness. Some say it can cause kidney stone, but some says there hasn't been any research paper showing it cause kidney stone, so it's remain controversial.

- most doctor are not interested in patient's diet and the food served in hospital is not the cure (e.g. white bread and jam)

- Fred Robert Klenner in 1940's cure virus disease by high doses of vitamin C

- LInus Pauling (1990, a chemist who won two noble prize, one in chemistry and one in peace) suggest vitamin C could be useful against the common cold.

- One nutrient is good for many things. Example Vitamin C is good for heart disease, for healing burns, reduce seizure of epileptic. Vitamin C is anti-toxin, anti-histamine, anti-viral, helps regulate blood sugar, elevate mood in people who are depressed.

- There is about 2000 nutrients and body has countless thousands of chemical reaction, so we can expect one nutrient (vitamin or minerals) can involved with multiple reactions in body. One drug is not for one disease. When we take vitamin, it doesn't heal the body directly, but it enable the body to heal itself.

- Max Gerson (1881-1959 Gerson Therapy), think body has its own healing mechanism. It is the doctor duty to activate and re-activate the body's own healing system, the patient is heal and doesn't matter what you call the disease.

- Take more Vitamin C when are stressed out.
if you have a stressful job, or have a stressful lifestyle (e.g. got kids to take care, rushing) or if your personality is easily irritated and get angry easily, your body will be breaking vitamin C as it generating adrenaline. Andrenaline is a substance produced in the body when you are excited, afraid or angry. It makes the heart beat faster and increases your energy and ability to move quickly. Andrenaline is the link between stress and heart attack, when you are stress, the body is making andrenaline, and it draw down the level of vitamin c in the body, and cause a vulnerability of your cardiovascular system.

- Dr. Dan Rogers (both a traditional Medical Doctor M.D. and a Naturoapthy Medical Doctor N.M.D.): chronic disease is not cured because doctors are treating the symptoms but not the root cause. He saw many patients who would have been die within a few months with conventional disease, getting better and better with naturopathy.

- Dr. Dean Ornish put people who have cardiovascular disease on a vegetarian diet (plant base high fiber diet) and stress reduction meditation, the patients are able to reverse or arrest cardiovascular disease in a year. Half of our death is from cardiovascular disease, and among them, half of them, their first symptoms is death. They might not hv any symptoms and suddenly death, which is too late.

- in UK, 10,000 people die due to adverse drug effect, 9000 die from prostrate cancer, 3500 people die from car accident.

- in US, 106,000 people die from adverse drug effect (and they are prescribed) and only 10 die from vitamin C in 23 years. So why dont we use nutrition first.

- 3000mg per day of Niacin - vitamin b3, help with depression and alcoholism, 11,500mg Niacin per day for very very severe suicidal depression

- two handful of cashew can help with depression, similar effect to a prozac

- if someone is depress, the first thing is to tell him it's ok to be depressed, but dont depress anymore, go and eat good food.

- Dr. Max Gerson (1930-0s) show vitamins and large quantity of fresh vegetable juices and organic food will help to reverse cancer. He has about 50% cure rate of terminal cancer ill patient.
(Gerson Plus Nutritional therapy)

- in 1972, 220,000 die of cancer, after 25 yrs, USA today published in 1996, 560,000 people die of cancer.

- japanese who has a low cancer rate, find to take a lot of trace element, omega 3 and drink green tea (male: colon cancer; female: breast and uterus cancer, US woman 13%, Japanese woman less than 1 %)

- instead of giving chemotherapy, you can have high dose of Vitamin C given intravenously, 30,000/ 60,000 / 100,000 mg a day or even 200,000 mg a day, nearly 0.25 in a kilo IV in 24 hours, directly into the blood stream, this will kill cancer cells. Patients may have thirst and

因為其實大部分人都 has a strong attachment to thyself

everyone has a strong ego that is very difficult to give up

把 self ego boost up

attachment to self ego 越大

我們會 become the prisoner of self ego

還得提醒自己不要 develop attachment to this island

而又不影響他人 (this could be very subjective of when an 'affect' is an 'disturbance')

quoted from 'principles of anatomy and physiology - Tortora)

"Absorption of Alcohol:

- The intoxicating and incapacitating effects of alcohol depend on the blood alcohol level. Because it is lipid-soluble, alcohol begins to be absorbed in the stomach. However, the surface area available for absortpin is much greater in the small intestine than in the stomach, so when alcohol passes into the duodenum, it is absorbed more rapidly.

Thus, the longer the alcohol remains in the stomach, the more slowly blood alcohol level arises. Because fatty acids in chyme slow gastric emptying, blood alcohol level will rise more slowly when fat-rich foods, such as pizza, hamburgers, or nachos, are consumed with alcoholic beverages.

Also, the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase, which is present in gastric mucosa cells, breaks down some of the alcohol to acetaldehyde, which is not toxicating.

When the rate of gastric emptying is slower, proportionally more alcohol will be absorbed and converted to acetaldehyde in the stomach, and thus less alcohol will reach the bloodstream.

Give identical consumption of alcohol, females often develop higher blood alcohol levels (and therefore experience greater intoxication) than males of comparable size because the activity of gastric alcohol dehydrogenase is up to 60% lower in females than in males. Asian males may also have lower levels of this gastric enzyme."

很 down

可以 give me a lift

:)
