2006 年 10 月 30 日 星期一 【炎熱】

I just know I have not been updated my on-line diary for over one hundred days. As a matter of fact, I have been very busy lately. Something happens. I felt harassed by all the work at the office. In addition, I do have problems in relationship. The following sentence always in my mind:

“There is no sense getting worked up over something that might not happen.”

“A Dream of Moonlit Night” 「月夜下之夢」
———— Diary for my beloved

月夜映照碧湖鏡,反映世間萬種情。
鴛鴦墮入情網裡,鑽進甜夢溫柔鄉。

“Hundred Days’ Love Story” (12st April thro 21st July 2006)
———— “The Coupon Theory”, from theoretical hypothesis to practice.

As far as I am concerned, everything has its own expiration date. Everyone should set his own timetable at different stages of life. You are a loser unless you hit the target on schedule. “The Coupon Theory” is a theory about time limit. Just image you got a coupon with no expiry date. You are supposed to exercise it whenever you want. But in practice, it is not the case. It is because you can choose to use it today or tomorrow or the day after tomorrow……until the day before you die. However, no one knows the date of death. Most of the people may think that they can use the coupon the following day. When the following day comes, they may think that the coupon could be exercised the day after. This circumstance would repeat itself again and again until the day you die. Ultimately, the coupon will never be exercised. Apparently, one could be regarded as a loser if he/she was trapped in “The Coupon Theory”.

The above situation could be applied to almost every case in our daily life. Today, I would like to apply the “The Coupon Theory” to relationship. Supposing that you are falling in love with a girl, but you don’t know whether that girl feels the same. Love should not be all on one side. One-sided love is meaningless and waste of time. Therefore, everyone should set a deadline for the “pursuing period”. Once you cannot meet the deadline, you should give it up. In my case, I only gave one hundred days to myself. That means I have to start a relationship on the hundredth day from the day that I first met the girl. My story could be traced back to the Easter this year……

“From Easter of WSI to Book Fair” (12st April thro 21st July 2006)

In an Easter party of the WSI (12st April, 2006), I was arranged to make a team with three girls and one of whom was Moon Sze. She was such a charming young lady and she just gave me a deep impression in the party. We shared Easter chocolate eggs and made some tiny models together. Since that night, we have met in the WSI from time to time. Every time we met in the WSI, we just kept talking until the centre was closed. Even though we seemed to have feeling with each other, we hardly know how to express our true feelings. Most of the guys use flowers, chocolates and jewellery to pursue a girl. But I just hate those old school methods. I did it on my own way. I chose the way that I really good at, storytelling. Every time I came across Moon in the WSI, I told her a story. The stories could be from a novel, a myth, a fable and even a theory, but not necessarily about love. More the stories I told, more Moon knew about me. From then on, I was just waiting for an opportunity, i.e. the deadline itself. Time passed by, the hundred days’ deadline was approaching. The deadline was on 20th July, 2006.

“South Kowloon” (24th July, 2006)

After working for two and a half months in the High Court of Admiralty, I was told to transfer to the Land’s Tribunal of Jordon. I have to report duty on 24th July, 2006. As I know, I could not see Moon anymore once I was transferred to the Land’s Tribunal. The time was running out. I promised to tell Moon the last story before my job transfer. Regrettably, I just missed the deadline. Today is 21st July, 2006, i.e. the 101st day! Should I give her up?

“Hong Kong Book Fair 2006” (21st July 2006)
———— Turning Point

Reading is one of the great loves of my life. My parents, especially my mother, have encouraged me to read different kinds of books since I was a kid. I have been a bookworm when I was twelve. The books about historical stories, fairy tales, folk tales, myth and fables are my favorite. Reading those stories for over ten years make me become a rather good storyteller. As a matter of fact, reading is not only my hobby, but also my faith.

The Hong Kong Book Fair is one of the most important events for readers in Hong Kong. Many major local bookstores, such as the Commercial Press and the Popular, offered a wide range of books with special discount in the book fair. Every year of this time the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre swarmed with booklovers. I even asked for an annual leave to attend the book fair this year. Therefore, the day that I attended the book fair is my happiest day of the year. Normally, I go to the Book Fair with two of my best friends, Alan Lo and John Shek, almost every year. But this year, neither of them joined me to the Book Fair. I shared my happiest day with Moon Sze this year.

Last Friday, I joined Moon at the Tsim Sha Tsui KCR Station at ten in the morning. We had our breakfast in a McDonald. We shared a bowl of macaroni and three pancakes. After the breakfast, we went to Wanchai by MTR train around eleven.

In the past, I stayed in the book fair from morning till night and spent a great deal of money on books. But this year, Moon and I hung around in the book fair for only four hours, from 11:00 to 15:15. I focused on searching the books about history, politics and myths, while Moon was looking for some books about design for her good friend. I spent over eight hundred dollars on nine books from several bookstores. As a faithful Christian, Moon bought one book for me, “When Church Meets Politics”. I like that much. Thank you for her book. As a matter of fact, I want to be a faithful Christian just like her. Even though we only spent a few hours in the book fair this year, it was the most meaningful book fair in my life. It is because I found something that is far more important than my faith on that day.

We left the exhibition centre at a quarter past three. After that, we had tea in Delifrance in Wanchai. We had some small talk in the café and she asked some questions about me. After finishing our tea, we walked around in Tsim Sha Tsui until we felt a little bit tired. Moon suggested finding a place to take a rest. Finally, we settled down in a McDonald inside a magnificent shopping mall at six in the evening.

In the McDonald, I told Moon the last story that I had promised her before. It was the “Eighty Days Around the World”. The story was about a rich man, Phileas Fogg, who spent eighty days traveling around the world. Fogg betted half of his property on his 80 days’ journey. He would go bankrupt unless he could travel around the world within eighty days. Unfortunately, he was one day behind the schedule when he returned to London. He lost everything but love. During the journey, Fogg fell in love with a girl. After the long trip, he proposed to that woman. The lady finally got married to Fogg although he went bankrupt and became a poor man. Surprisingly, Fogg found that he was one day ahead of schedule due to the earth’s rotation. He won the game and got back all his property. Most importantly, he found the true love after traveling around the world. Thus, love is the only thing which worth searching for whole life.

As I was saying, the 100 days’ deadline was supposed to be on 20th July, 2006. However, Moon and I first met on 12th April, 2006 at seven in the evening. In other words, the deadline should be on 21st July, 2006 at seven! On that day at seven o’clock sharp, I asked Moon if she was willing to be my girl. Eventually, she became an indivisible part of my life and vice versa. That day was not only my deadline, but also my crucial turning point in my life.

Moon is the masterpiece of the God. Everyone on the earth can just see the moon on the sky, but I am the only one who can hug my Moon every single night!

“My job”

After serving the Judiciary for a month and a half, my immediate supervisor asked me to assist the Master (Judge) in hearing. That was tough work. About three weeks before the hearing, I had to handle hundreds of pleadings from both the legal firms and the Legal Aid Department. I am responsible to proofread those legal documents one by one. Every single document should be submitted to my mentor and approved by her. I learnt a lot from her even though she was very strict. I was expected to work overtime before the hearing day.

On 6th June, 2006, it was my first time to sit in the court as a staff member. I was the only clerk to serve the Master. I got nervous during the hearing. I made several mistakes about the names of the petitioners and the legal firms. Nonetheless, all those solicitors did not dare to blame me for making those mistakes because they got nervous in the court as well. The Master did not seem to satisfy my performance. He did not blame me for my poor performance since it was my first time to do the job. I wish I can do better next time. My next hearing is scheduled on 11th July, 2006.

To be honest, I was completely weighed down by the stress of my job. It is quite different from what I expected. Much as I dislike the job, I cannot give it up for the time being. I need money. I have spent a lot of money recently. How much did I spend? Just read the following.

“Crime Movies” (11th, 18th June, 2006).

During the World Cup period, many soccer fans become couch potatoes. They stayed up watching the football games until next morning. Many of them were late for work the next day. Fortunately, I do not have such a problem since I am not a football fans. But, I am such a couch potato on every weekend. Watching TV dramas and movies are my favorite pastime. I sit in front of the television all day long every Sunday. The TV programs “24”, “Desperate Housewives” and “Sex and the City” are my favorites.

Having been influenced by my parents, I love watching Hollywood movies, especially “True Lies”, “Lethal Weapon” series and “Die Hard” series. They were all blockbusters. Some people have a bias against Hong Kong movies since most Hong Kong films were made on a shoestring. Recently, I have watched several crime movies which were directed by Hong Kong directors, including “Infernal Affairs II & III”, “Breaking News”, and “Divergence”. To be frank, they were not good compared with the Hollywood films.

“New MP3 player” (24th June, 2006)

Since my MP3 player is not functioning well, I need to buy another one. Last Saturday (24th June, 2006), I spent $518 to buy a band new MP3 player with two SD cards from the ACL Digital Shop in Fortune Plaza in Tai Po.

“Gathering” ——Library Co-workers (24-25th June, 2006)

Yesterday night after the French class, R. Yu joined me for dinner at an eatery in Mongkok. R. Yu ate nothing while I had a bowl of noodles. Afterwards, we went into a café for coffee. Around ten, Arvin Cheng joined us at the Paris Zone Café. R. Yu and Arvin were my colleagues in the Hong Kong Central Library three years ago. They are my good buddies. The gathering was for celebrating Arvin’s Birthday. We had a long chat at the café until half past two in the morning. R. Yu is looking for his new career and Arvin is doing quite well in his study. Wish both of them have good future. Since it was the birthday of Arvin, I footed the bill. R. Yu and I got into a minibus at Mongkok. We were home around 03:00 in the morning. I spent two hundred something on that night.

“Dinner with Moon Sze” (29th June, 2006)

As I mentioned before, I have been studying English in the Wall Street Institute (WSI) of Shatin since last November. During the past seven months, I have made friends with some of my classmates and Moon Sze is one of them. Moon and I first met at a Social Club of the WSI on 12th April, 2006. It was the night before Easter Holiday. Christine, the teacher, prepared some games for all the students. Moon and I were searching Easter chocolate eggs together in the WSI centre. We all enjoyed ourselves on that wonderful night. Since then, I became acquainted with her. Even though we are in different study level, we always meet at the laboratory. I like to chew the fat with her every time we met in the WSI. Sometimes, we would share some candies or snacks. Also, we have a lot in common. We are both Christians, enjoying watching movies and shopping in the malls.

Last Thursday, I had dinner with Moon Sze. We met at the Tai Po KCR Station at 19:00. We took the bus no.K12 to the Tai Po Mega Mall. Moon and I hung around in Tai Po Mega Mall. We went into several pet shops and gift shops. Moon bought a mechanical pencil from a gift shop for her little friend and got a chewing toy from a pet shop for her lovely dog, BB.

After that, we had dinner together at a western restaurant in Tai Po Mega Mall. We were sharing our work and life during the meal. As usual, I treated the lady to dinner. It just charged me a hundred dollars. I think the price was reasonable. After the supper, I saw her home. It was midnight when we reached Shatin. Moon lives in a well-established residential area, and the transportation is very convenient. I was very impressed by the beautiful neighborhood. No sooner had we got off the bus than it began to rain. Both of us got wet since we did not have an umbrella. I said goodbye to her and took taxi home. It was worth taking a taxi since the taxi driver gave me 20% discount and only charged me $68. It only took about 20 minutes from Shatin to Tai Po. I dropped the taxi at Tai Po Centre near Jusco. I got home at around 00:30 in the morning. In a nutshell, Moon and I had a wonderful night.

"Exam Passed!" —— CRE (29th June, 2006)

After a long travel, I was completely exhausted. I was home around 00:30. At that moment, I just wanted to take a cold shower and went to bed as early as possible because I had to work early next morning. Before taking a bath, I noticed a letter from the Civil Service Examination Unit was laid on my desk. I opened the letter without hesitation. The examination result took me by surprise. I got passed in all three papers! Four years before, I got failed in the same examination. I eventually passed the examination this year. Although I do not want to be a civil servant, passing the CRE is still meaningful to me.

"Dinner with Sum and Fai" (1st July, 2006)

Yesterday night at eight, I had dinner with my ex-colleagues, Fai and Sum, at a Shanghai restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui. It has been quite a while since we had dinner together. The food was quite good. As a matter fact, I like Shanghai cuisine. The meal was quite expensive and charged us a few hundred bucks. Afterwards, we went to a café nearby. Both Fai and Sum are quite satisfied with their jobs. They seems doing very well on their positions. I was very glad to hear that.

"Dental Appointment" (2nd July, 2006)

Today morning at ten, I went to a dental clinic for my tooth-filling. It just took half an hour and charged me $1200. It cost me an arm and a leg. On the bright side, my teeth are now clean.
