早幾天日記裡談起認為 '痛' 應該是好的東西
想不到
今天看到一篇文章那位醫生也如是說
"In his book, 'Pain: The Gift Nobody Wants,' Dr. Paul Brand explores the purpose and value of physical pain. Dr. Brand, a world-renowned hand surgeon and leprosy specialist, spent his early years in India where, as the son of missionaries, he was surrounded by people living under conditions of extreme hardship and suffering. Noticing that physical pain seemed to bee expected and tolerat4ed much more than in the West, Dr. Brand became interested in the pain system in th human body. Eventually, he began working with leprosy patients in India and make a remarkable discovery. He found that ravages of leprosy an the horrible disfigurements were not due to the disease organism directly causing the rotting of the flesh, but rather it was because the disease caused loss of pain sensation in the limbs. Without the protection of pain, the leprosy patients lacked the system to warn them of tissue damage. Thus, Dr. Brand observed patients walking or running on limbs with broken skin or even exposed bones; this caused continuous deterioration. Without pain, sometims4 they would even stick their hands in a fire to retrieve something. He noticed an utter nonchalance toward self-destruction. In his book, Dr. Brand recounted story after story of the devastating effects of living without pain sensation - of the repetitive injuries, of cases of rats gnawing off fingers an toes while the patient slept peacefully.
After a lifetime of working with patients suffering from pain and those suffering from lack of pain, Dr. Brand gradually came to view pain not as the universal enemy as seen in the West but as a remarkable, elegant, and sophisticated biological system that warns us of damage to our body and thus protect us. but why must the experience of pain be so unpleasant? He concluded that the very unpleasantness of pain, the part that we hate, is what makes it so effective in protecting us and warning us of danger and injury. The unpleasant quality of pain forces the entire human organism to attend to the problem. Although the body has automatic reflexive movements that form an outer layer of protection and move us quickly away from the pain, it is the feeling of unpleasantness that galvanizes and compels the entire organism to attend and act. It also sears the experience into the memory and serves to protect us in the future.
in the same way that finding meaning in our suffering an help us cope with life's problems, Dr. Brand feels that an understanding of purpose of physical pain can lessen our suffering when pain arises. In view of this theory, he offers the concept of "pain insurance." He feels that we can prepare for pain ahead of time, while healthy, by gaining insight into the reason we have it and taking the time to reflect on what life would be without pain. However, since acute pain can demolish objectively, we must reflect on these things before pain strikes. But if we can begin to think of pain as a "speech your body is delivering about a subject that is of vital importance to you, in the most effective way of getting your attention," then our attitude about pain will begin to change. And as our attitude about pain changes, our suffering will diminish. As Dr. Brand states, "I am convinced that the attitude we cultivate in advance may well determine how suffering will affect us when it does strike." He believes that we an even develop gratitude in the face of pain. We may not be grateful for the experience of pain, but we can be grateful for the system of pain perception."

我從很小的時候已經有這個想法
大概是中學的時候吧
所以一直也不喜歡吃止痛藥
比如說小時侯脫牙
pk 崩牙, 頭痛, 肚痛等
盡可能我也避免吃止痛藥
總覺得痛是身體給我的訊息
讓我好好休息
當時朋友都對這看法不以為然
到現在長大了
看到書本也有說痛是好的概念
讓我獲得更大的信心
努力努力
希望我所讀的能幫助到別人
非常希望他日我的病人見我的次數盡可能減少
我不希望有任何熟客
我要教他們如何過健康的生活
讓他們不用經常光顧醫生

serving in a meditation course
yay!!!
由於從這個方法得到很多好處
所以決定認真修學
老師建議最好是每年坐一個十日課程和 serve 一次十日課程
這樣計
我做了 8 次學生
serve 了三次
所以希望這兩年內能多 serve 五次
tentative to serve 3 courses this year
and serve 3 courses and sit one course in 2012

發現了很奇怪的道理
這學期讀 Pharmacology
書說藥的療效
其中一個因素取決於肝的排毒功能
most of the oral administration (e.g. oral dose of pills) will first pass through the liver for first passing metabolism, the drugs that are bounded with protein receptors and metabolised will be eliminated. Only those drugs that are unbind, we call them 'free drug', wil exert a therapeutic effect.
from the above concept, the meaning of 'therapeutic dose' is the amount of dose that our liver (or other detox organs, such as kidney) can't be cleared quick enough. And what we call them 'therapeutic effect' (e.g. gone of pain) is produced by the drug that cannot be cleared by the liver.
這個概念讓我出現了以下疑惑
肝應該天生是保護我們人類
把毒排走
但原來我們所吃下的 'drug'
原來在肝的眼中
它們是不好的東西
所以肝才會把它們分解排出體外
但我們卻把趕唔切被排出體外的東西對身體所產生的影響叫作 '療效'
這是非常矛盾
比如說止痛藥
原來我們的肝會把止痛藥分解
分解不了的殘餘藥份會產生藥力
這些殘餘藥份會讓我們覺得不痛
按這道理推斷
其實身體是認為我們不應該不痛
但我們硬要它不痛
更以為我們 '不痛了' 便是身體獲得改善
這個基本道理很顛倒
我們以為痛是對身體不好
但身體認為 '痛' 才是對身體好
其實當我們痛時
the pain receptor is there to ask us to rest and not to move that part (e.g. an injured arm)
the pain is actually doing us good
it helps our body to rest automatically (e.g. pain so u wont feel like to move)
and the feeling of pain will activate more white blood cell and other members to come over to the pain region and help
so i think as long as the pain is not to the fatal level
we should in fact be friend with the 'pain' and thank it

this is a very good compliment, heehee, yeah, i see it as a compliment
當然我仍有很憤怒寂寞不安的時候
but the main point is, when I am angry or when i am fear or when i am lonely
i wont get overwhelmed to the extent as i did in the past
and I am literally feeling much much happier

and a big thanks to Goenkaji and those who pass this technique from generation to generations
especially bigger thanks to buddha, who find out such non sectarian technique
may more people can benefit from this
and may this technique maintain its purity and wont become a sectarian religion
